Bright and beaming or cool and calm? Whatever your style preference, designing the perfect bathroom is easy and affordable with our handy tips and techniques. Create a tranquil room where you can relax after a hard working day or go for something a little more unique and start each day in a fun way with bursts of colour.
Size Isn’t Everything
Sadly, we aren’t all lucky enough to have a large bathroom with a spa bath overlooking the ocean. New builds in particular often feature particularly small bathrooms to allow for more space in other rooms. If you’re after extra space, consider creating a wetroom or converting your loft into a bathroom. Having said that, even the most compact bathroom can be turned into your very own paradise…
- Colour: Even if your bathroom is small, don’t be afraid to add colour. Metallic silver shades will add glimmer to the room, whilst mirrors and light reflecting tiles will create a sense of space. Choose floor tiles with a hint of glitter for a dazzling finish.
- Space Saving: Use both wall and floor space wisely and try not to clutter your bathroom with washing baskets and ornaments. Installing a towel rail on the end of the bath will save space elsewhere, and a plain glass shower screen will blend in beautifully rather than an unpractical shower curtain.
- Storage Space: Even in the smallest of bathrooms, you’ll still need a handy place to store all your lotions and potions. Mirror wall cabinets are great for creating a streamlined look, whilst shelves which you can hook onto the back of the door or hide under the sink are also convenient.
Bathroom Design Trends
Freestanding baths are extremely popular, and when you have a signature piece, you don’t necessarily have to worry about anything else!
Other popular style ideas include the eco-friendly, organic spa look where you can add a touch of luxury to your home with exotic plants and low water usage sinks and showers.
Many bathroom designers are also now much more adventurous with colour. Adopt an art deco 1920s feel with either warm, plush pinks or an inky navy. Much like today, 1920s bathrooms were also small, but featured large mirrors and flattering lighting for a glamorous feel.
